GORHAM, IL (KFVS) - Two boys were killed after they were struck by a vehicle Thursday evening in Jackson County.
Tyler Marquith, 10, and Nicholas Marquith, 8, were killed when the plastic sled they were playing on slid into the path of a Buick passenger car driven by a 25-year-old Gorham woman around 6 p.m. Thursday, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
Sarensen Road is a lightly traveled dead end lane serving only a few homes. The children were playing in front of their home. Tall grass and trees growing along the steep road bank created visibility issues that may have prevented the children from being seen from the road. Excessive speed is not being considered as a contributing factor.
Responding deputies and paramedics arrived on the scene and began administering first aid.
Both children were transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Murphysboro where they died as a result of their injuries.
A crash reconstruction investigation is being conducted by the Jackson County Sheriffs Office in cooperation with the Jackson County Coroner's Office.
Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro will handle the funeral. Murdale Baptist Church will host the visitation and the funeral.
