Arrest made in Metropolis/Murphysboro stolen vehicle investigation

MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - On June 25, 2015 the Murphysboro Police Department received information from the Metropolis, Illinois Police Department of a stolen vehicle taken from Metropolis, Illinois.

The vehicle, a 2010 Ford F250 Truck, was stolen from the Metropolis, Illinois Water Department on June 24, 2015 and owned by the City of Metropolis.

At 12:27 p.m. a City of Murphysboro Police Officer located the vehicle at 300 N 7th Street in Murphysboro Illinois.

James Andrew McLafferty was located with the vehicle and taken into custody.

The investigation revealed McLafferty was involved in theft of the 2010 Ford F250 Truck, theft of motor fuel from a gas station in Paducah, Kentucky, attempted theft of motor fuel from Jackson County Housing Authority vehicles in Murphysboro, Illinois, and theft of a utility trailer from 1st Street in Murphysboro, Illinois.

Murphysboro Police learned McLafferty was in Metropolis, Illinois after being detained then released by the Massac County Sheriff's Office for being a passenger in a stolen vehicle from Herrin, Illinois.

McLafferty was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

Additional charges are pending.
