Steele, MO man accused of threatening neighbors with ax

STEELE, MO (KFVS) - A Steele, Missouri man is accused of threatening his neighbors with an ax.

Franklin Travis, 43, was charged with armed criminal action, felony assault and resisting/interfering with arrest.

According to Steele police, on June 18 an off-duty officer was home at Nobel Estates Apartments when he heard a disturbance outside.

The officer said he heard a man yelling threats to do bodily harm to a group of people and then the man allegedly went into an apartment, got a chopping ax and began walking toward the people.

The off-duty officer approached the man, telling him to drop the ax. After several commands from the officer, the man dropped the ax and was arrested without further incident.

The man was identified as Franklin Travis.

He was taken to the Pemiscot County Jail and his bond was set at $75,000.
