Preliminary autopsy results released after death of Christopher man

FRANKLIN COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Illinois State Police is investigating the death of a Christopher man.

Police were called around 4 a.m. Sunday morning to a home on Egyptian Drive for a person needing psychiatric evaluation.

After authorities secured the area, Steven C. Berkley, 51, was taken to the hospital where he died an hour later.

An autopsy revealed Berkley had pulmonary edema and congestion due to clinical excited delirium suspected to be cause by some form of illegal drug.

The final cause of death will not be released until toxicology reports are completed. That could take four to six weeks.

An ongoing investigation is being handled by the ISP and ISP Crime Scene Investigators.
