Carbondale man charged in connection with gas station armed robbery

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

A Carbondale, Illinois man was charged in connection with an armed robbery of a Du Quoin gas station.

On June 16, Stanley L. Cohen, 32, was charged in a two-count indictment with interference with commerce by robbery in violation of the Hobbs Act and using, carrying and brandishing a gun during a crime of violence.

According to U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, the charges stem from a May 16, 2014 armed robbery of the Shell Gas Station in Du Quoin, Ill.

Cohen is scheduled to make his initial appearance in federal court in Benton on June 30.

The investigation was conducted by the Du Quoin Police Department, Perry County Sheriff's Department and the Carbondale Police Department.

The case was assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda A. Robertson for prosecution.
