A Carbondale man was convicted of aggravated robbery and sentenced to prison.
The Jackson County State's Attorney announced Raymond McCollum, 20, pled guilty in Jackson County Circuit Court.
McCollum was sentenced to serve eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and will serve a two year period of Mandatory Supervised upon his release from the department of corrections.
According to the state's attorney, a man was was leaving his apartment on January 21, when he was approached by McCollum.
At this time, McCollum pushed the man into his apartment and showed what appeared to be a handgun.
The intruder demanded money and the victim, who is a resident of India, game him $200 in Indian Rupees.
After the victim was able to get the intruder out of his apartment, McCollum ran from the scene.
When investigators searched McCollum's house in March, they found about $190 in Indian Rupees along with a black and silver airsoft pellet pistol.
The victim identified the pistol as the used by the intruder during the robbery.
