Jackson, MO church preparing for overseas mission trip

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -

A church in Jackson, Missouri is taking their mission to help others overseas.

St. Paul Lutheran Church will spend the week packing and getting ready for a mission trip to Guatemala.

Organizers say they'll be helping to pour concrete for new buildings in the central American country. Members of the church go every year, taking donated supplies and helping improve an area in poverty.

"The community where we go, the average income is around $300 per person," Dave Crites, mission team coordinator, said. "They live in very squalid conditions and we try to take them home and teach them about the word of God and give them faith and does as much as we can to help them along the way."

The church said the community has donated medical supplies, clothing, toys and even sporting goods to give away during their trip.
