State parks closing some facilities in light of flooding

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - High waters are affecting more than just roadways.

Parks across the state are being forced to close some attractions due to flooding.

Even Cape Girardeau County the Trail of Tears State Park is making necessary closures.

So if you're planning on a weekend in the wilderness, you may have to rethink it.

Starting on June 18 the Wescoat Picnic Shelter and Mississippi River Campground will be closed.

According to the Missouri State Parks Web site, those closures could well last through the rest of June.

Officials say high water has flooded some access roads.

Now if you have already made reservations to use the park's facilities expect a call to change your stay.

As of Wednesday some roads are already closed to the public.

If you were looking for some fun on the water, the boat ramp at trail of tears is closed as well.
