CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Fire and police crews in Carbondale received word of a fire at the Southern Illinois University Arena on Monday, June 15 at around 10:18 a.m.

Smoke filled the building because of the fire.

Carbondale fire officials say a university employee had parked a company vehicle near the building's loading dock at the rear of the facility. The vehicle was left running just outside of the loading dock and caught fire.

The SIU women's basketball camp had been going on, but the entire building was evacuated when smoke alarms were triggered.

The basketball court area filled with smoke, and upon arriving, fire officials called for a smoke ventilation truck from Johnston City. The building's built-in ventilation system was activated and the call for mutual aid was shortly thereafter canceled.

SIU police tweeted a YouTube video of the Carbondale Fire Department arriving on scene around 10:26 a.m.

The vehicle was damaged beyond repair by the fire, but no one was injured.

The area was cleared around 11:45 a.m.
