CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - A woman is dead after a semi crash on Interstate 55 near the 92 mile marker on Sunday, June 14.

According to Cape Girardeau police, the semi jackknifed and landed partially in the nearby Diversion Channel.

Police say they got the call around 6:57 p.m. on Sunday. They say no other vehicles were involved.

According to police, the driver was partially submerged in water when they arrived. She was taken to an area hospital where she waster pronounced dead.

Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton said the driver of the semi, a 52-year-old woman from the Memphis area, was pronounced dead on Sunday around 9:30 p.m.

An autopsy will be conducted on Monday and the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

The driver's name has not been released.

There's no word on if the crash was weather related.

Police say the northbound lanes of I-55 were closed for several hours due to the crash.
