Diesel leak contained on Cape Girardeau hospital's property

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Cape Girardeau Fire Department and Department of National Resources authorities responded to a diesel leak outside Saint Francis Medical Center Wednesday late morning.

It happened just before 11 a.m. A generator fuel tank was being repaired when it overflowed, setting off high fuel alarms. The spilled fuel was contained on Saint Francis' property.

About 22 gallons were spilled. The spill is expected to be completely cleaned up by Wednesday evening.

One lane of Mount Auburn was closed while fire trucks staged there as they plugged up three pipes of where the gas was spilling out of.

One firefighter says that the gas stayed in the Saint Francis Medical Center's own drainage system and did not get into the city sewers.
