GRAND RIVERS, KY (KFVS) -
A Paducah may have landed a record-breaking catch.
Bill Schroeder, 84, of Paducah caught a Silver Asian Carp that weighed 106 pounds and was 4.5 feet long, according to The Lake News
It took Schroeder one hour and 45 minutes to land the fish. It pulled his 20 foot long bass boat an estimated distance of 3 miles from Kentucky Lake to Lake Barkley through the canal that connects the two giant lakes.
Schroeder was bass fishing in Kentucky Lake when he foul hooked the monster fish. The battle with the fish apparently drew quite a crowd of onlookers.
The fish was so large, another fisherman climbed into Schroeder's bass boat and helped him hoist it into the boat.
The big fish will be analyzed to determine that it is in fact a Silver Asian Carp and to determine its exact weight.
A spokesman with the Green Turtle Bay Marina and Resort says this is the type of Asian carp that can fly out of the water, but they typically don't if they are this large.
