COPY-Teen charged in crash that killed student after prom

CALUMET CITY, Ill. (AP) - An 18-year-old has been charged with DUI causing death and reckless homicide with a motor vehicle in a crash that killed two people, including a Calumet City student who attended prom hours earlier.

The Chicago Tribune ( ) reports David Peden of Calumet City was released on $40,000 bail Tuesday.

Police say the car Peden was driving crossed the center line early Sunday in Calumet City and slammed into a pickup driven by 56-year-old Juan Rivera, a longtime Metra employee. Authorities say Rivera was killed, as was a passenger in Peden's car, 18-year-old Aaron Dunigan.

Dunigan's mother, Kaye Jackson, tells WLS-TV ( ) that the two and a third teen were leaving an after-prom party.

Dunigan was set to graduate from Thornton Fractional North High School this week and was the football team's quarterback.
