CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

How do you say thank you to those who've sacrificed their lives to protect and serve? One group of officers did so in a special ceremony on Friday at Cape Bible Chapel.

This event was organized by "Seniors and Lawmen Together (SALT).

The purpose was to honor officers from the southeast Missouri area who, in their words, "Made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting their neighborhoods."

"We want to honor the memories of those officers, and we want to recognize the family members to be a source of encouragement, a source of mentoring, a source of support to those family members and continue our pledge to them that we will never forget the sacrifice that their family members made on our behalf,” said SALT Secretary Doug Austin.

Some 50 fallen officers from area departments like Cape Girardeau, Dexter, Piedmont, Malden, New Madrid, and the Missouri Highway Patrol were specifically honored.
