Carbondale students "roughing it" to help the homeless

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - More than a dozen young people in Carbondale are about to get a first-hand look at what it's like to be homeless.

Fifteen members of the Carbondale Unitarian Fellowship youth group will create a "cardboard city" on the fellowship's grounds at 105 N. Parrish Lane, and sleep there the night of Saturday, May 16. A news release says the students will be "roughing it" for one night to raise awareness about homelessness.

They're also doing it to raise money for two local organizations that help the homeless: The Good Samaritan House in Carbondale and Bethany Village in Anna.

The students have set a fundraising goal of $1,000.
