IL man sentenced for shank possession

An Illinois man was sentenced to federal prison, according to Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois.

Rodney George Plenty Hawk, Jr., 36, formerly an inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution in Greenville, Illinois (“FCI-Greenville”), was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for possession of contraband by a federal inmate.

Plenty Hawk had a “shank” which he subsequently turned over to the officers. The shank was a white plastic rod, approximately 9½ inches long, sharpened to a point at one end with a braided cord at the other end.

He also has to pay a $100 fine.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Prison's Special Investigations Section. The case was assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Angela Scott.
