Du Quoin Fire Department receives $47K FEMA grant

WASHINGTON (KFVS) -

US Sen. Dick Durbin D-IL announced on Thursday that FEMA has awarded grants totaling $542,506 to five communities in Illinois.

The Du Quoin Fire Department will receive $47,239 in funding.

According to a news release from Durbin's office, the funding will support and improve the capability of each department to respond to fires and other types of emergencies.

"This federal funding will ensure that when fires or other emergencies occur in our communities, our nation's firefighters and first-responders have access to the best resources and the equipment needed to help protect them as they protect us," Sen. Durbin said.

Here are the four other fire departments and protection districts that will receive funding for operations and safety:

  • Witt Volunteer Fire Department (Witt, Illinois): $23,467 in funding
  • Lacon-Sparland Fire Protection District (Lacon, Illinois): $54,286 in funding
  • Peoria Fire Department (Peoria, Illinois): $303,182 in funding
  • Harristown Fire Protection District (Decatur, Illinois): $114,332 in funding

The funding is provided through the DHSs Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program.
