Essex, MO man accused of hitting man with baseball bat

SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

An Essex, Missouri man is accused of assault and armed criminal action.

Robert L. Watkins, 53, was charged with class C felony assault in the second degree and armed criminal action.

According to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, on Sunday, May 3 a deputy responded to a home in Diehlstadt, Mo. for a disturbance in progress.

The victim had allegedly been assaulted by Watkins with a baseball bat.

When the deputy arrived, Sheriff Walter said he discovered Watkins had left.

The victim said the he was at the home to get his belongings from the pump house. Watkins allegedly hit the victim with a baseball bat across his back.

The deputy said the victim had a large, red mark across his back.

Watkins was later found by the Miner Police Department on Matthews Lane in Miner, Mo.

He was arrested and taken to the Scott County Jail by the sheriff's office, where he remains.

His bond was set at $15,000 cash or surety and he cannot have any contact with the victim.
