Man charged with theft after promising to buy house

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A man faces a theft charge after authorities say he skipped town after promising to purchase a home.

Jeremy Caudle, 46, is charged with theft by failure to make required disposition over $500.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Department began investigating a theft related case involving Caudle in early April 2015.

The victim reported that Caudle was making arrangements to purchase a home he owned in the 4700 block of Old Mayfield Road. Caudle told the victim that he was about to close on a loan and purchase the home in question.

The victim agreed to provide the suspect with more than $2700 for the purpose of closing on the loan at the suspect's request. After the alleged closing date had expired, the victim made multiple attempts to make contact with Caudle without success and discovered that Caudle had moved out of the home and skipped town.

Detectives also made multiple attempts to contact and locate Caudle without success.

An arrest warrant was secured. Caudle was found in Livermore, Ky. and arrested on April 30.

Detectives have also discovered other individuals allegedly scammed by Caudle in this area. However, the details of those incidents were determined to be civil issues, not criminal.

Caudle appears to have a history of theft by deception type offenses in multiple counties in the western Kentucky area dating back to the early 90s, according to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department.

Caudle was taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail on the theft charge as well as charges from Graves County.
