United Way of Southeast MO seeks new executive director

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

The Board of Directors of The United Way of Southeast Missouri has announced that, effective immediately, Nancy Jernigan will no longer serve as executive director of the United Way.

The Board of Directors and Jernigan mutually agreed it was in the best interest of the organization.

"It's been a privilege and a blessing to work for the United Way and the community," Jernigan said. "As with any organization that has such an impact on a community, sometimes a change is needed to continue to move forward. In the same sense, I have given my life to this cause, and am humbled by the results we have shown, but I also need a change to reinvigorate my passions. After 20 years of dedication, I am ready to pass the torch to the next leader."

A search committee is being formed in order to select the United Way's next executive director.

Board President Kevin Greaser said, "The Board of Directors extends or gratitude for Nancy's many years of service and wishes her well."

Jernigan was selected to serve as executive director in 1995 and during her tenure has seen the United Way transition from a "community chest" model to one in which overall community impact goals are set and prospective funded partners are carefully selected and monitored in order to see that those goals are achieved.
