HERRIN, IL (KFVS) -

Although Mother's Day is still a week away, thousands of mothers and their families nationwide are celebrating on Sunday, May 3.

Families gathered at Herrin City Park Sunday afternoon for Bereaved Mother's Day.

Some in attendance say they lost children during childbirth, while others had miscarriages.

Organizer Anne Miller says she lost her daughter Emily 8-years-ago.

She believes having a separate day in her daughter's honor helps to keep her memory alive.

“It kind of helps me unload that baggage of grief, before I go to my other family stuff so that I can celebrate without feeling like I'm leaving her behind,” said Organizer Anne Miller.
