Watch out for mowing crews on KY roads

Contract and state mowing crews are performing their first round of mowing for the year.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is asking drivers to be alert for mowing crews during daylight hours anytime weather allows.

KYTC says drivers should slow down and use caution when they encounter a mowing zone, as mowing equipment may be required to travel into or across the roadway during their work.

A contract crew is working in the Fulton, Kentucky area and will be on the move across the region, according to Keith Todd with the transportation cabinet.

Contract crews will be working along US Highways, parkways and interstates.

State crews will be working along US Highways and rural secondary highways in all counties in coming weeks.

A mowing zone should be given the same respect as other work zones.

Slow down, put down your cell phone, pay attention to traffic around you, and be alert for mowing equipment you may encounter up ahead.

KYTC District 1 is responsible for maintenance of 2,800 miles of state highways in Kentucky's 12 westernmost counties.
