SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

Hundreds of folks came out to support the Sikeston Area Humane Society on Saturday for its Second Annual Dog Days in downtown Sikeston, Missouri.

There was plenty of food, drinks, music and a variety of vendors were on hand. Cats and dogs were there available for adoption.

Organizers say many don't know Sikeston has a Humane Society.

They feel the event is a great way to get the word out and teach people about what the organization has to offer.

With an online auction the society recently held along with the event on Saturday, they have raised over $4,000 for their heartworm and medical funds.

Organizers tell Heartland News that in the past they have had to rally to raise funds after an animal has been dropped off that needs medical care.

They say having the funds in hand will help animals get medical care quicker.
