CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A part of North Sprigg Street was closed on Saturday morning for a soap box derby race.

The races started at 8 a.m. in front of Blanchard Elementary.

The opening ceremony was at 9 a.m. with races following.

Each division of the race is a qualifier to the All American Soap Box Derby national race in Akron, Ohio in July.

Boys and girls ages 3-7 raced in the Stock Division. The Super Stock Division was available to boys and girls ages 10-17.

3) Jeremiah Kunz

4) Jake Coalter

The race was sponsored by Plaza Tire Service and the Cape Girardeau Rotary Club.

Proceeds from the race are used for local, regional and international projects. The global mission of Rotary International is to eradicate polio.
