SIUC hosts state science fair

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Some of the youngest and brightest minds in Illinois will get to showcase their talent this weekend in Carbondale, Illinois.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale is hosting the Junior High State Science Fair.

On Friday, students were pouring in from across the state and setting up their projects to be judged over this weekend.

Augusta, Illinois student Kelly Arnold says the state science fair is a great experience for the future.

“Well, personally I can say that through state science it can really help you advance with your career and really decide what you want to do as a career later in your life, said Arnold, who's from Hampshire High School in Augusta. "It has influenced my decisions greatly.”

More than 300 students from across the state are expected to compete in this weekend's science fair.

Grand prize winners could take home more than $15,000 in scholarships.
