Officials say 2 students take handguns to Kentucky school

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - School officials say a kindergartner and a first-grader took two handguns - one of them loaded - to an eastern Kentucky elementary school.

Knox County schools spokesman Frank Shelton says a student saw the guns on a school bus and alerted staff at Dewitt Elementary School in Flat Lick.

Shelton says the guns were confiscated at the school, which was briefly put on lockdown Thursday morning.

The school spokesman says there were no injuries from the incident, which is being investigated by Kentucky State Police.

Shelton says the two boys accused of taking the guns to school are brothers, ages 6 and 7.

He says the guns were being transported to school by backpack.

Shelton says students were taking home a letter from the school district's superintendent about the incident.
