Murphysboro man accused of sex abuse to serve time in prison

MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) -

A southern Illinois man pled guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse on April 28 and was sentenced to serve time, according to the Jackson County State's Attorney's Office.

Jerry L. Williams, 31, of Murphysboro was convicted in Jackson County Circuit Court and was sentenced to serve 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The defendant will serve a four-year period of mandatory supervised release upon his release.

In February, the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and Murphysboro Police Department began an investigation into an inappropriate relationship between the defendant and a juvenile female under the age of 17.

Officers were tipped off by a concerned resident.

Police officers spoke with the victim, who admitted to having sexual intercourse with the defendant.

During interviews with Williams, he ultimately admitted to having sexual intercourse with the juvenile.

The investigation was conducted by the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and the Murphysboro Police Department.

Assistant State's Attorney Casey Bloodworth prosecuted this case.
