Fishing expedition for special population in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The 30th Annual Fishing Expedition for Special Populations is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13 at Bleyer Lake.

The event begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 2 p.m.

More than 1,600 people will line the shores of Bleyer Lake for the Special Population fishing event. They will spend the day fishing and are provided a free lunch. All the fishing equipment is free to the participants. 

The participants are coming from Southern Illinois schools and sheltered workshops in Jackson, Williamson, Union and other surrounding counties. 

The Fishing Expedition for Special Populations began 30 years ago, and is sponsored by Frank Bleyer, The Bank of Carbondale, and Mountain Valley Properties, and Mountain Valley Water of Carbondale. Hundreds of volunteers, civic organizations and the community generously donate their time to help with this event each year.
