IL mayors warn of city services cuts if state funding slashed

ILLINOIS (KFVS) -

Several Illinois mayors gathered on Wednesday, April 29 to discuss possible drastic budget cuts.

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has suggested a 50 percent cut to the municipal share of state income taxes, known as the Local Government Distributive Fund.

If passed by the state legislature, the cuts would go into effect in July 2015.

Many mayors across the state are concerned, and believe it could lead to tax hikes or major cuts to city services.
