Students celebrate academic scholarships with signing day

Students who sign to play athletics at a university or college are often honored with a signing day.

Tuesday, Jackson High School seniors who were awarded academic scholarships celebrated by officially signing on with the school of their choice.

Many students explained this moment is extra special because they're now off to the school of their dreams.

"I am so excited," said Claire Tidwell, who is off to Missouri State University. "It just worked out that they had a great program for both of my degrees and I was so excited to get a scholarship. It means so much that along the way and even in the future I have a whole bunch of people backing me up in this whole process. As we go out into the real world, that's priceless and I'm just excited to start it.

Students say they are excited to be recognized for their hard work.

"It's good to know that all of the work we did really did mean something," said Katie Brewer. Brewer is going to Southeast Missouri State University. "It's amazing to be recognized for all our hard work."

Josh Barber is off to Murray State University. "It was a fantastic school for me and it was voted friendliest small town in America," Barber said. "That means a lot to me. I can't wait."

"We had so many people helping us and I am really excited to move on to Mizzou!" said Maddie Greenlee. "I've always been a Tiger fan!"

Students signed with Baylor, Evangel, Hamline, Missouri State, Murray, Savannah College of Art & Design, Southeast Missouri State University, Mizzou, Truman, Murray, SIU, and many more.
