JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - The director of a Jackson animal shelter entered a not guilty plea Tuesday.

Alice Wybert of Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary faces charges of animal abuse for not providing adequate veterinary care for two cats last year.

She heads back to court in May.

Meanwhile, the shelter still cannot take in or adopt out any animals.

A mediator will meet with representatives from the shelter and the Attorney General's office Wednesday to decide if the remaining animals at the shelter need to be removed.
