EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) -

An East Prairie, Missouri woman is facing a new felony charge after an investigation by the sheriff's department revealed evidence of victim tampering.

Doris Jean Stalnacker, 45, was charged with tampering with a victim in a felony prosecution.

According to Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore, the investigation began on Monday morning when a deputy was contacted by an East Prairie resident whose home was recently burglarized.

The resident reported an unwelcome visit from Stalnacker in which she allegedly offered to return items previously stolen from the home on the implied condition that the victim agree to not further assist in the prosecution of cases pending against her.

Deputies then found Stalnacker, took her into custody and took her to the Mississippi County Detention Center.

Sheriff Moore said a post-arrest interview confirmed Stalnacker had talked to the victim in a pending criminal matter for the purpose of trying to dissuade the victim from helping in the prosecution.

Stalnacker remains in the detention center with her bond set at $75,000.
