MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

An Anniston, Missouri woman is facing felony charges after a fraud investigation by the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department.

Elizabeth Marlene Cole, 37, is charged with two counts of forgery, class C felonies.

According to Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore, the investigation began last month when a county business owner notified a chief deputy that one of his customers paid him with checks that were later found to be written on a closed account.

During the investigation, Sheriff Moore said the checks were found to be stolen and the suspect was identified as Cole.

Deputies found Cole, arrested her and took her to the Mississippi County Detention Center.

Following her arrest, Sheriff Moore said Cole was interviewed on videotape. He said deputies developed a probable cause and allege that Cole knowingly passed two checks signed with a fraudulent signature.

Cole is currently incarcerated at the Missouri Department of Corrections, but after being discharged, she will be returned to Mississippi County where her bond is set at $25,000.
