SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - A bridge on Wakefield Road on the west side of Sikeston that has been closed since early January will reopen soon.

Keith Simpson Construction Company of Scott City is putting the final touches including pouring asphalt before re-opening.

The bridge was originally constructed in the 1970s. It was closed earlier this year due to deteriorating conditions. Wooden supports underneath were starting to rot and city officials decided the bridge needed reconstructing.

The road mainly was used for industrial traffic. Since the bridge closed, truckers and other drivers have had to detour around and through the streets of Sikeston. The Sikeston Power Station entrance sits right next to the closed bridge along with other commercial
business's down the road.

The bridge is expected to open as early as Tuesday, April 28.
