CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Nearly 100  people gathered together in Cape Girardeau to take part in the Steamboat Classic Triathlon on Sunday.

Participants first loosened their muscles taking part in a 450 meter swim at the Cape Central Pool. Afterwards they rode a 15.5 mile course through the streets.

After cycling, they sweated it out with a five mile run down Broadway and back up to Cape Central Pool.

Several volunteers and officers were directing traffic at intersections where the athletes crossed.

Trophies and triathlon gear was awarded to the top three finishers in their category.

Money raised for this event goes back the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation. The money helps out other events throughout the year for Cape Parks and Recreation.
