The Eighth Annual Walk for Redhawks kicked off Saturday at the Southeast Missouri State University campus.

Participants walked to support Southeast athletics. The event raised more than $50,000, according to the university.

All money raised enhances student-athlete scholarships for the Redhawks.

"I'm thrilled with the event and that the day turned out well," said Southeast senior associate director of athletics/senior woman administrator Cindy Gannon. "I think everyone enjoyed themselves and came away feeling good about Redhawk Athletics. We outgrew Houck Field House and I thought the venue was great. This event is only as good as the people that you have that support it and work with you to make it work. I hope this event is something that is going to be here a long time."

Students and SEMO fans took a brief 30 minute walk around campus.

The event featured door prizes and fun games for kids.

Participants also received a free t-shirt for registering.

In the first seven years, the event has raised more than $200,000 combined, according to the university.
