SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -
It's already a stressful time but now a Sikeston, Missouri mother says she's scrambling to pull off her daughter's wedding.

That's after she says a Heartland rental company is closing its doors and will not honor their reservation.

"We picked out pretty much everything a person need for a weeding," mother of the bride to be Tonya Mitchell said.

Mitchell first went to Show-Me-Rental in Sikeston last August to start planning her daughter's wedding. She thought she was ahead of the game.

She order items like chair covers, candles, table skirts and archways among others.

"They put everything in the computer and basically just told me how much it would be," Mitchell said.

After receiving a discount because a family member works there, Mitchell had $662 worth of items reserved for June 19.

Then on Thursday, when she went in to make a payment, she got news no wedding planner would want to hear.

"That's when I was told they were going to be closing their doors.” Mitchell said. “One month away from my daughter's big day."

They gave her deposit back but Mitchell said she couldn't believe it.

"I had knots in my stomach," Mitchell said.

Show-Me-Rental manager Dawnya Harris said after failed attempts to sell the 35-year-old business, the owner decided to retire.

"It's an unfortunate situation, but you have to set a date," Harris said.

The owner set the closing date for the end of May.

"What we tried to do is set it at a point where our biggest reservations, the most weddings and things like that would be taken care of," Harris said.

Harris said the company had to cancel on six to eight other reservations.

She said they, the company, made an exception to give Mitchell a discounted price in the first place.

They are standing by their decision to cancel the order.

"Unless someone wants to come in and buy the business we're going to close," Harris said.

Mitchell said she wishes she would have known that from the beginning.

"Had they told me that, I would have went somewhere else because I wanted to make that day as special as possible," Mitchell said.

Show-Me-Rental will close on May 22.
