World tour paddling film festival coming to SIU Carbondale

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

Before you ask, yes, there is such a thing as a Reel Paddling Film Festival, and, it's coming to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale!

The World Tour 2015 Reel Paddling Film Festival will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on  May 1 at the SIU Student Center Auditorium.  This event celebrates nature by showcasing the best paddling films and, just like nature. The event is free of charge.

Some of the films include:

  • "Caleb," the story of a young man who lost the use of both of his legs but that didn't stop him from the adventure of kayaking.
  • "Paddle to DC," a chronicle of a 2000 mile journey from Ely, Minnesota to Washington, D.C.
  • "Facing Waves; Whitewater Mexico," a story about one of the most intensive whitewater races on the Alsaseca River in Mexico.

There are many more that explore the Grand Canyon, how paddling helps people with PTSD and the beauty of Greenland.
