HERRIN, IL (KFVS) - A Herrin, Illinois landmark has been placed on a list of historical landmarks most likely to be threatened by deterioration due to a lack of maintenance, insufficient funds or inappropriate development.

Landmarks Illinois has placed Herrin's Thatchcot House on the "2015 Most Endangered Historic Places" list.

The home was built in 1915 by local builder Hal and Violet Trovillion and has since been a staple of southern Illinois history.

In 2000, a fire devastated the inside of the home and the current owners have not been able to afford repairs, so the home has since remained vacant, according to a statement by Landmarks Illinois.

Landmarks Illinois hopes that by raising awareness of the threat to these historic landmarks, people will step up and help to keep these landmarks in tact.

The Thatchcot House has been placed on a list with 12 other historic landmarks in danger in Illinois.
