Southern IL Treasure Tours kicks off 2015 season

MARION, IL (KFVS) -  The Southern Illinois Treasure Tour has officially kicked off its 2015 season.

After last year's success of the Herrin Massacre bus tours, organizers have unveiled four additional cultural and heritage tours for this year.

The announcement was made Wednesday afternoon at the historical Williamson County Jail Museum in Marion.

New this year will be expanded 1920s historical tours and canoe trails.

These tours will be held from Williamson County to Pulaski County, and organizers say they're ones that all ages can enjoy.

"It's very educational," CEO of S.I. Treasure Tours, Amy Erickson said. "We can do group tours. We have had interests from clubs and organizations  from retirement centers."

The 2015 season kicks off Saturday May 2, with the inaugural Orchards and Vineyards Heritage Tour leaving Murphysboro at 8 a.m. that day.
