Ameren crews out to trim trees ahead of spring storms

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - As the spring storm season takes full effect, Heartland residents should keep an eye out for crews trimming trees.

Ameren crews are trimming trees to make sure the plants have plenty of room to grow this spring and summer.

Trimming trees helps to prevent outages by making it less possible that a branch could fall on a power line.

Ameren says homeowners should let crews take care of this work, and ask that residents don't try it on their own.

"We would ask that you contact us," Southeast Missouri Ameren Director, Bob Dixon said. "All of our lines for line clearance we have certified tree trimmers that go through a rigorous training program because they are working around the high voltage lines and they have the training. We would ask that people not trim their trees. If you have lines from the pole to your home contact us and we will come out and drop our service line free of charge and allow the homeowner or his contractor to provide the trimming for that line as well."

Ameren also asks that you contact them before planting a tree.

It can save you the cost of repairs if you dig into an underground utility line.
