Use tax question on Cape Girardeau Co. ballot to be recounted

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

A recount is scheduled in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri for the closely-contested use tax question that was on the ballot on April 7.

Chapter 115.601.1 of the Missouri Revised Statues states that "...any person whose position on a question was defeated by less than one percent of the votes cast on the question, shall have the right to a recount of the votes cast for the office or the question."

The recount is set for Tuesday, April 28 at 8:30 a.m.

The court was petitioned on April 13 for a recount by a registered voter of Cape Girardeau County.

Circuit Judge Benjamin F. Lewis then ordered the recount.

Kara Clark Summers, county clerk and election authority of Cape Girardeau County issued the notification of the recount.
