MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) -

The second annual Graves County Empty Bowls event was held Saturday, April 18, at Trace Creek Baptist Church's Family Life Center in Mayfield, Kentucky.

Organizers say it brought out crowds of supporters who got to sample dishes donated by 20 restaurants.

Folks got to take their unique hand-painted bowls home as a reminder of the hungry people around the world and their own community.

There was door prizes and a silent auction.

Project Coordinator Claudia Heath said the event raised about $9,000 to benefit the Mayfield-Graves County Food Pantry.

The pantry provides emergency food supplies to area needy families.

The Empty Bowls project is part of an international movement started about 20-years-ago to help end hunger and raise awareness of hunger-related issues around the world.
