Scott Air Force Base airman pleads guilty to obscenity charge

An active duty airman stationed at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois pleaded guilty to a obscenity charge.

Steven M. Zachman, of Belleville, pleaded guilty in federal district court on Friday, April 17 to a one-count felony information charging that he knowingly transported obscene matters in interstate commerce.

Zachman is scheduled for sentencing on July 24 at 11 a.m. before the Honorable David R. Herndon.

He faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine and three years supervised release.

According to the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, court documents indicated that from August to November 2013, Zachman knowingly used the website to upload digital images and video depicting graphic bestiality, as well as about 20 images of prepubescent minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

As part of his plea, Zachman admitted that the images he uploaded were obscene.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Air Force, Office of Special Investigations and is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Nathan D. Stump.
