Du Quoin man sentenced after high speed pursuit

A Du Quoin, Illinois man was sentenced Thursday after driving away from police in a high speed pursuit last year.

That's according to Michael C. Carr, Jackson County State's Attorney.

Cody M. Key, 23, of Du Quoin, Illinois, was convicted of aggravated fleeing to elude, following an open plea of guilty on Thursday.

Evidence showed that on December 21, 2014 Key sped through Du Quoin at more than 100 mph without the vehicle's headlights on.

The vehicle continued though Du Quoin and ran several stop signs.

The vehicle was eventually trapped behind a hospital in Du Quoin.

Two people got out of the vehicle and ran.

One followed police commands to stop and was detained. He pointed out that the driver of the vehicle was Cody Key.

Key, who has prior convictions for burglary and theft, was sentenced to serve three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, followed by a period on one year of mandatory supervised release upon his release.

This investigation was conducted by the Dowell Police Department.

Assistant State's Attorney Patrick Brewster was responsible for the prosecution of this case.
