Police: Paducah man arrested after spotted driving alleged stolen car

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

Police say a Paducah, Kentucky man was arrested after he was spotted driving an alleged stolen vehicle on Paducah's southside.

Richard Cooper, 45, was charged with second degree fleeing or evading police (on foot), receiving stolen property (less than $10,000) and driving without an operator's license.

According to police, he was also arrested on a warrant charging him with violating parole after a felony conviction in Jefferson County, Ky.

Police say a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe was reported stolen on Thursday morning, April 16 from outside of a business on Jackson Street.

At about 2:40 p.m., they say officers dispatched to the area of Brown Street where the vehicle was reportedly spotted.

While on the way, officers say they saw the Tahoe and followed it to Chase Motor Sports on Brown Street, where they say the driver jumped out and ran.

Officers chased the driver, later identified as Cooper, into the woods.

Police say Cooper fell down an embankment and into water that was about 6 feet deep. They say he then swam to the bank and was taken into custody.

Cooper was booked into the McCracken County Regional Jail.
