CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Fans will have a chance to meet some big names in the industry and buy from dozens of vendors.

Coffey's Comic and Games will be one seller there.

Aside from their booth, they will also be hosting game tournaments throughout the weekend. Those are open to anyone.

Owners there say the Comic Con can be a good introduction to new players and collectors.

"The con definitely I think brings in more people who are more on the fence about what they want to do,” Coffey's co-owner Ignatius Zielinski said. “Do they want to start a collection, do they want to get into this thing that so many people have been in for years."

Aside from comic conventions in St. Louis and Memphis, the Cape Comic Con is one of the only in the area.

This will be the tenth year for the convention in Cape Girardeau.

Director Ken Murphy says it should be fun for all involved.

"We like to layer our event with multiple genres, multiple activities—something for everyone. And this year we're really excited to have our very first video game tournament. Other gaming events, they've been with us forever, they're very popular: Magic The Gathering, some of the card games and some of the strategy games. They've always been a staple of our show, they've been with us for ten years now," Murphy said.

There will be costume contests, demonstrations, TV stars, representatives from Marvel and many other special guests.

The event opens Friday at the Osage Center at 4 p.m and runs through Sunday.
