CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) -

A southeast Missouri man faces charges stemming from a shooting investigation by the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department.

Trevor Michael Tatum, Jr., 29, of Sikeston, Missouri, was charged with assault first degree, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

Due to a prior felony conviction, Tatum is banned from having a gun.

He is also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

According Sheriff Keith Moore, the investigation began Saturday morning when a deputy was dispatched to a home to investigate a shooting.

The deputy secured the area and then got medical treatment for the victim, who said he had been shot by Tatum.

An investigation showed that Tatum had stopped at the home to borrow money.

Following a brief argument, authorities say Tatum allegedly shot the victim in the leg.

Tatum was found by the Sikeston Department of Public Safety (DPS) a short time later.

He was taken to the Mississippi County Detention Center.

Tatum's bond was set at $200,000.
