Saluki Service Days set for April 13-18

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Students at Southern Illinois University of Carbondale will give of their time and energy April 13-18 to better their campus and the surrounding community during the first-ever Saluki Service Days.

Some of the service projects include a canned food drive, trail cleanup at Touch of Nature Environmental Center, and preparation for SIU's Earth Day celebration which is April 22.

Staff members of the sustainability office say is it's great way for students to give back to their community.

"It's very important as part of our academic work that we participate in community involvement," recycling assistant, Greg Aldrich said. "So that we give back, we try to build a better campus and a better community to learn it."

Students and staff will also volunteer to have their heads shaved for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, to help fund childhood cancer research. The goal is to raise at least $3,000.
