Spring cleanup and recycling day planned in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

Volunteers are invited to join Keep Carbondale Beautiful on Saturday, April 18 at 8 a.m. at Turley Park for the annual Spring Cleanup and Recycling Day.

Volunteers will receive bags and gloves to collect litter and recyclables at assigned areas. Bags are then left on street corners to be picked up by crews from City of Carbondale's Maintenance and Environmental Services.

The Rotary Club of Carbondale will weigh all the trash and recyclables. Prizes are given in several categories for the most litter collected.

Volunteers will be provided with a free lunch, and the first 200 to sign up will get a free T-shirt.

KCB's Spring Cleanup & Recycling Day is part of Keep America Beautiful's nationwide Great American Cleanup. Local event sponsors include Burris Disposal, Southern Recycling Center, CIMCO Recycling, and the Neighborhood Co-op.

Pre-registration is encouraged. Forms can be downloaded from http://www.keepcb.org/spring-cleanup--recycling-day.html
